Kirrawee High School celebrates the achievements of NFL star Michael Dickson

NSW Department of Education < 1 min read

Kirrawee High School will celebrate the achievements of former student Michael Dickson on Monday as the star punter plays in the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks.

Dickson was a much-loved student at Kirrawee, attending between 2008-2013.

He was admired for his strong work ethic, sporting ability and attention to detail that has seen him go on to become the top punter in America's NFL.

Michael is one of a number of high achievers to have attended the humble comprehensive NSW public high school in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.

From 2024 Olympic BMX gold medallist Saya Sakakibara and her inspirational brother Kai, to Australia’s first and only National Hockey League (NHL) player Nathan Walker and two-time World Ironman Triathlon champion Chris McCormack, the school has produced and mentored an exceptional range of gifted athletes.

But it doesn’t only shine on the sporting field with Larissa Behrendt (Indigenous academic, lawyer, writer and NSW Australian of the Year) and renowned jazz vocalist Emma Pask also school alumni.

In honour of Michael making it to one of the biggest stages in world sport, Kirrawee High School will celebrate his achievements with a Super Bowl shindig on Monday.

Proud school Principal Christine Campbell and a number of Michael's former teachers and some excited students will be available to chat as the school shows the Seattle Seahawks v New England Patriots match on the big screen.

Schools on the frontline as Australian children grapple with trauma

As the news cycle shows, Australia and the world are confronting deeply distressing events, with experts warning that schools are increasingly carrying the emotional fallout.
