Official ceremony to kick off Mardi Gras celebrations

WHAT:            The City of Sydney will host the official ceremony to mark the start of Mardi Gras celebrations.

 

                        The Progress Pride flag raising ceremony will be held at Sydney Town Hall.

 

In celebration of the Mardi Gras 2026 theme – ECSTATICA – leading members of the LGBTIQA+ communities have been invited to come together for the ceremony.

 

2026 marks the 48th anniversary of Sydney Mardi Gras, which was born out of political action in the LGBTQIA+ communities and continues to highlight important issues and lobby for change. 

 

 

WHEN:            TODAY, Friday 13 February

 

 

TIME:              5-6pm – indoor reception at Sydney Town Hall

                        6-6.15pm – outdoor flag raising and photo opportunities  

 

           

WHERE:         Sydney Town Hall

 

 

WHO:             Lord Mayor Clover Moore will be joined by City of Sydney councillors and

representatives of Sydney Mardi Gras and the Sydney LGBTQIA+ community.
