Family First National Director Lyle Shelton today announced Rebecca Scriven as the party’s candidate for the federal seat of Farrer — with a clear priority: taking the pressure off families.
Mr Shelton said advertisements targeted into Farrer will start running on Meta today promoting Family First’s fight to cut the cost of living.
A mother of four, married for 20 years, and living just north of Albury in rural NSW, Rebecca knows first-hand the strain families are under. Originally from South Australia, she now works at an independent Christian school and is active in her local church community.
“The cost of living is out of control — and families in Farrer are paying the price,” Rebecca said. “Family First will fight to take the pressure off.”
Rebecca said her campaign will focus on practical measures to ease household budgets. Family First’s plan includes cutting migration to reduce pressure on housing, approving more housing supply, cutting family taxes so families can afford a house on one wage and slowing the reckless race to renewables that is driving up electricity prices.
“Families are being squeezed at the checkout, at the petrol pump and in their power bills. Canberra’s policies are making it worse,” she said.
Rebecca brings significant governmental experience, having worked in two state Ministerial Offices and in the South Australian Legislative Council. She believes parliaments function best when members are grounded in the Judeo-Christian values that shaped Australia.
Alongside cost-of-living relief, Rebecca will defend the religious freedom of faith-based schools and organisations, protect children from radical LGBTQ+ gender fluid ideology in classrooms, and advocate for laws that uphold the dignity of every human person — including strong protections for the unborn and proper resourcing of palliative care.
“Vote 1 Family First to take the pressure off the cost of living,” Rebecca said.
