New Reviva Reuse Shops to Open in Wallan and Seymour, Bringing Fantastic Finds and Local Jobs
Resource Recovery Australia (RRA), a national not-for-profit social enterprise and registered charity, is excited to announce the opening date of its two new Reviva Reuse Shops at the Wallan and Seymour Resource Recovery Centres. Reviva Reuse Shops help to give quality pre-loved items a second life while keeping valuable resources out of landfill and in the local community.
Operating through a new partnership with Mitchell Shire Council, the project supports Council’s commitment to smarter waste management and sustainability, making it easier for residents to reuse, recycle and shop more sustainably. The Reviva Reuse Shops will provide residents with a practical way to purchase quality second-hand goods that would otherwise be thrown away.
From furniture and bric‑a‑brac to books, toys, kitchenware, tools and garden items, the shops will feature a constantly changing range of recovered or donated items. All electrical items will be tested and tagged prior to sale. Beyond environmental benefits, the project will deliver real social impact locally. RRA’s proven #WASTE2WAGES model will create up to nine local jobs across Wallan and Seymour, with a focus on providing training and employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work. The model has been successful in many regional communities around Australia, where Reviva Reuse Shops not only divert material from landfill but also help people build skills, confidence and long-term employment pathways.
RRA’s General Manager, Matt Curtis, said the partnership is about strengthening communities through practical action.
“Every item we rescue and resell is one less thing going to landfill, and one more opportunity to support local jobs,” Mr Curtis said. “We’re excited to work with Mitchell Shire Council to create welcoming Reviva Reuse Shops that deliver environmental and social benefits to residents in Wallan and Seymour.”
Mitchell Shire Council Mayor John Dougall said Council was proud to welcome the Reviva Reuse Shops to Wallan and Seymour.
“These shops will deliver real environmental and social benefits for our community,” Cr Dougall said. “We’re excited to see locals discover some great treasures while supporting a more sustainable future for our Shire.”
The Reviva Reuse Shops will open on Saturday 14 March, and the community is warmly invited to come down, explore the shops and see what treasures they can find.
The shops will operate Thursday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm at the Wallan and Seymour Resource Recovery Centres.
