Toxic metals and carcinogens found in Australian tattoo inks: new study
Key Facts: Some tattoo inks sold in Australia contain toxic metals and carcinogenic compounds at levels that would be illegal in the European Union, according to new research led by UNSW Sydney.A study led by UNSW Sydney and published today analysed the chemical composition of 15 black and coloured tattoo inks from major, established international tattoo ink brands that were purchased from Australian suppliers. While every ink tested failed current European Union (EU) safety regulations for tattoo inks, the authors say their findings aren’t cause for panic.
